The Sun and Climate Change [video]

Nobody doubts that the Sun influences Earth’s climate.  In fact, it powers the whole thing, and powers life itself through photosynthesis.  Even oil is bottled sunlight.  However, when you talk about climate change, you have to remember the change part.  The Sun may run the climate, but that doesn’t at all mean that it powers climate change.  If it did, you would expect changes in the Sun to match the changes going down here on Earth.  That’s the rub.  They aren’t there.  In the warmest decade our civilization has ever seen, the one just past, the Sun was actually sort of cooler than usual.

The following video addresses the science of the Sun and climate change.  It is the sixth in the series from the clever folk at the US National Academy of Sciences.
