A Summer of Climate Disasters Says Act Now

Posted on August 21, 2010

We have now been told.  We have seen Russia set on fire.  We have seen the morgues of Moscow overflow.  Maybe soon a loaf of bread will cost a little more because of the Russian drought.

We’ve been shown.  Mud slides in China.  Heartbreaking floods in Pakistan.

Scientists are even willing to go out on a limb.  They say this is exactly what the models have predicted.  Nothing like this has happened before (they shake their heads) and that’s because humanity has never messed with the climate before.

Their message and its implications are actually kind of clear.

Act now.  The theatre is on fire.

Act now.  It’s too late to strike a committee.  It’s too late to parse the grammar of a treaty.

Act now.  Act this decade.

Or we fail.
